[Aleksei is following a very pretty, well-dressed young woman down the lane of a medieval-looking city, her hand tight around his. It's evening, and hanging lanterns light the way, flickering against the stone streets. She's chattering to him about the really very amazing traveling merchant's cart that came by last week -- it has so many pretty things, and it'll be gone tomorrow, so he just has to see it tonight.
He's complaining that she has more than enough pretty things already. He just bought her a fine fur coat! But she keeps talking, seeming both excited and somehow nervous. They take a turn... but it's not towards a market. It's a dark alleyway, and as his lover turns to smile at him, sadly, Aleksei pulls his hand away from hers, demanding to know what she's up to.
"Am I not giving you enough? This is a poor joke, ---! "
Her name is just static. As he turns to storm off, annoyed, he runs face-first into a man even taller than he is, broad and intimidating and bear-like. The man grabs Aleksei's arms with an iron grip, while behind him the woman's voice chimes in. His name, too, is static.
"Money isn't the same as love, ---. You have too much of the former to spare, and not nearly enough of the latter.
I'm leaving the city. But my ticket away from here... is you. I'm sorry."
No amount of struggling has even a slight impact on the bear-like man, so Aleksei just shouts curses and crude insults at the woman as the man leans in, breath against Aleksei's neck -- and bites.
He's still for a few seconds, frozen... and then as he's dropped to the ground there's a brief fuzzy shot of the night sky before the memory goes dark.]
